The Greater Bank is a mutual financial institution based in Newcastle, Australia. I was part of a team of 6 engineers responsible for maintaining and implementing the network and server infrastructure for the Greater (1000+ client computers, 200+ servers, 60+ sites and multiple mission critical 24/7 systems).In this role I primarily performed project work and some BAU support. I also worked closely with our internal development teams (with technology stacks such as Java/Spring/JBoss and .NET/MVC/IIS) to assist them with continuous integration, deployments, monitoring, environment management and architecture of their projects using technologies such as TeamCity, Octopus Deploy, Powershell and Splunk. This included spending a year seconded into our Core Banking Modernisation project team, where I was the lead engineer, working with a large team of developers to improve their devops pipeline, application monitoring and help guide their architecture. For more information on some of the specific projects I was involved with, please see the “Projects” section of my profile.Key responsibilities: - Project work, consisting of meeting with stakeholders and understanding their problems / requirements, designing solutions to meet these requirements and then implementing those solutions. - Assisting developers with deploying code to servers, architecture design, continuous integration, automation and other dev ops related tasks.- BAU support of all infrastructure. - Assisting junior system engineers and support staff, providing coaching and guidance. - Assisting Information Security officers with evaluating and mitigating security risks.
