Director, Economic And Community Development

Bexar County, Texas

San Antonio, Texas, United States

I joined Bexar County as they merged their Economic and Community Development departments and were looking to build a “One Team” culture that would drive positive results internally and externally to support the economic mobility of constituents. Leading the culture evolution has been a highlight of my career. I have reenergized the culture by implementing Gallup Strengths, a Welcome Home Team Member process, consistent branding strategy, developed flexible learning plans including events such “Munch & Mingles” to increase engagement and skill sets. Also, implemented bi-annual department wide offsites for a staff of 70+ which include a day of engaging learning events.Outside of the culture focus, I lead the Housing Urban and Development (HUD) team, General Fund Community Grants, Workforce Development team and Economic Development incentives such as Tax Abatements, Texas Enterprise Zone (TEZ) nominations, Skills Development grants and Innovation grants. I engage Bexar County’s Commissioners Court and Community to build strategies to deploy funding to be the most impactful for our diverse community. In addition, I grew as a leader during the COVID-19 pandemic. As early as April, 2020, I guided our teams to quickly deploy Small Business grants, a Rental Assistance Program, PPE grants and more as Bexar County was hard struck economically. Our department successfully leveraged the $76M of Corona Virus Relief Funds in alignment with US Treasury guidelines and our community needs.
