I am currently the Associate Vice Chancellor in the Division of Research at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Prior to joining UNC Charlotte in 2018 as chair and professor in the Department of Geography and Earth Sciences, I was chair and professor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Sciences at the University of Colorado Denver with a secondary appointment in the Colorado School of Public Health/Environmental and Occupational Health. I specialize in hazards and health geography, and have over twenty-five years of experience working with geographic information systems (GIS) in a variety of social science application areas, including health and disaster management. My research and teaching interests focus on vulnerability/resilience as they relate to natural and human-induced hazards and global environmental health at the intersection of human-physical systems and the built environment.
