After attending Colorado State University and receiving my BS in 2003, I started my career in the veterinary profession in 2004. I received my AA in Veterinary Technology from Foothill College in Los Altos Hills, CA in 2008. During my career, I worked in general practice for 10 years before transitioning to the dermatology specialty over the last six years as a part time position. To supplement my position at the dermatologist, I started my own home pet care business in 2014. Since then, I have been serving my community as a home vet tech home care specialist, offering an array of services for a variety of species.

As a RVT working in the dermatology specialty, I am responsible for client and patient check ins which involve obtaining and reviewing patient histories, reviewing and maintaining medical records, obtaining vitals, restraint/handling of patients during exams, venipuncture, IV catheter placements, nail trims, ear cleanings, patient monitoring during anesthetic or sedated procedures, performing allergy skin tests (IDATS), set up and proper logging of procedures, ordering supplies/medications/equipment, managing controlled drugs, inventory, filling prescriptions, and client education. I am also responsible for faxing all completed medical records to referring veterinarians as well as handling client questions and concerns. Due to our small staff, we are also expected to assist in CSR duties such as answering phones, charging clients out and scheduling appointments. At times, it is necessary to handle end of day reports, variance reports and other closing duties. It is also the teams responsibility to ensure proper cleaning and sanitation of the clinic throughout the day.

As a supervisor to the technical staff, I am responsible for the staff's performance and training, as well as responsible for scheduling. I am in charge of making sure that all medical protocol is put into place, modified as needed and followed correctly by the staff. I perform all other technical duties such as anesthesia induction, monitoring, dental cleanings and extractions, suturing as needed, venipuncture, IV catheter placement, dental and digital radiography, client education and communication, hospital organizations and so on. Also, after receiving our certification as a green business that I pursued, I am in charge of making sure we follow the environmental standards expected of that certification.
