As a Project Lead in the iGEM Guelph team I:  Collaborated with other student leaders to develop and conduct a successful project that received a silver medal from the iGEM judging committee. Oversaw experiments conducted by other lab members to ensure experiment quality and safety throughout the season. Maintained the lab to comply with guidelines set by the University of Guelph and ensure that the lab had the materials for efficient work in future experiments. Maintained the team's laboratory notebook for team use and for judging by iGEM officials. Conducted interviews to recruit new members for the research team (including members for the research, engineering, and business sub-teams).Project: In 2023, iGEM Guelph aimed to combat Vitamin B12 (Methylcobalamin) deficiency by creating a probiotic containing gut bacteria that is designed to to colonize the intestinal walls and constitutively secrete methylcobalamin with human intrinsic factor simultaneously. E. coli Nissle 1917 was selected as a chassis as it is a known resident of the gut microbiota. Project: In 2022, iGEM Guelph aimed to combat the detrimental effects of Dipteran insect larvae on crop growth. In a project labelled "Project Ceres", we attempted to co-express Cyt1Aa cytotoxic proteins with the p20 caspase protein under an IPTG inducible promoter to create a protective zone around the roots of crops. B. subtilis was selected as the chassis for our project, being that it exists already as a soil microbe present in numerous quantities and alongside its ability to form biofilms and sporulate.

As a lab member of the iGEM Guelph team I:  Contributed to the expansion of the "iGEM Parts Registry" by creating an ethanol inducible promoter named the "AclR ethanol inducible promoter" (Part named BBa_K4058033 in the iGEM registry). Development of figures to elevate the presentation of our project to the general public, stake holders, and at the iGEM competition. Maintained the team's laboratory notebook for team use and for judging by iGEM officials.  Conducted various experiments to transform an inducible plasmid into Arabidopsis thaliana and analyze it. Some examples of experiments are listed below - To genetically create the plasmid, Golden Gate cloning was used. - To validate cloning efficiency, Plasmid purifications, PCR, and gel electrophoresis were used. - Transformations were conducted to transform our plasmid into E. coli and A. tumefaciens. - The floral dip experiment was used to transform A. tumefaciens into A. thaliana.Project: In 2021, iGEM Guelph aimed to address issues posed to food production caused by abnormal and inconsistent climate. Using a combination of a CRISPr activation system and an inducible molecular switch, we could trigger the expression of stress-response genes following human-mediated application of a chemical stimulus.
