After work and law school in NYC, I began my legal career in Boston with a large firm focusing on business litigation and state criminal defense. Early in the 1980's I was appointed an Ass't U.S. Attorney and soon prosecuted and successfully tried the first pension fraud case tried to jury verdict in the District and the First Circuit. For the balance of my years as an AUSA and under the supervision of Bob Mueller, Chief of Criminal Division, I concentrated on major frauds cases and hi tech transfer cases under the Economic Espionage Act. Following my return to private practice on the doorstep of the 1990's, I pursued my expertise in parallel administrative, civil and criminal proceedings, combining my experience in civil business litigation and white collar crime defense in federal and state courts and before administrative boards. At Burns & Levinson I have represented individuals, firms and companies in significant investigations (internal, government and grand jury) and court cases involving the following substantive fields: antitrust, aviation tort (representing American Airlines in catastrophic crash cases), banking, commercial litigation, complex bankruptcy adversary proceedings (representing the plaintiff ch. 7 Trustee of Bank of New England Corp.), computer fraud and abuse act, directors’ and officers’ liability, and securities and tax fraud and violations, health care fraud including pharmaceutical and medical device cases, RICO, and international fraud.
