Managing DirectorSamsung Securities Jan 2011 - Apr 2012London, United KingdomManaging Director of the UK/European operations of Samsung Securities & a member of the Global Management team focused on growing a new Pan Asian equity business. We were to take Samsung from a brokerage business focused on Korean equities to being a major player across the region. We hired 130 people from international IBs and were looking to open offices and JVs across Asia. Unfortunately due to the ongoing global financial crisis, a change of Group CEO and an internal strategic review Samsung decided in 2012 not to continue with the international focus and closed down the operation. In the year I was at Samsung much was achieved globally. I was part of the active management team of twelve focused on the global strategic growth of the business - hirings, institutional investor visits, budgeting, planning, executing conferences and driving daily business. In Europe: I hired and managed additional salespeople in London, established a joint venture in France and hired an Asian specialist in Germany. I managed a sales team dedicated to delivering what clients in the region really wanted - regular top quality analyst meetings, a sales service focused on "Alpha" generating ideas only and corporate visits from Asia. We also established an external "Speaker Series" which introduced experts from outside of financial services to add value and insights. We hosted a large conference: "Smartphones and Tablets" which brought together Asian Companies, expert speakers from the US, Asia and Europe and institutional investors. Another Conference was to have been held during the London Olympics. Before the business closed, Samsung Europe had grown its client base from around twelve at the start of the year to over 35, had been added on to a significant number of new client broker lists, receiving votes and initial CSA payments from many of the top institutional clients. Globally Samsung was gaining significant client traction and emerging as the most exciting new broker. -
