About Devin Ibanez

My name is Devin Ibañez and I am the first openly gay Major League Rugby player and I am dedicated to LGBTQ+ advocacy in sport. I hope to inspire the next generation of LGBTQ+ athletes and make sport an inclusive space for them.I grew up in Boston, MA and played for Major League Rugby team, the New England Free Jacks, in their 2019 exhibition season. I won a gold medal while representing Team USA at the 2017 World Maccabiah Games in Israel. I also won the 2018 D1 National Championship with my club team, Mystic River Rugby Club. When not playing, I have coached rugby at Westlake Boys High School in New Zealand, my alma mater Brookline High School and most recently with the Northeast Academy. I hold a degree in Sport Management and Education from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.Since leaving Major League Rugby, I became the Global Ambassador for International Gay Rugby (IGR) in May 2021, and I am a public speaker focusing on community outreach to inspire the next generation of LGBTQ+ athletes and make sport an inclusive space for them. I recently relocated to London from the US to join myGwork as a Customer Success Manager
