To assist newcomers and their transition into the job, I have implemented an intuitive resource that I named my “Scribe Manual” into their training regimen. This manual lists various topics regarding the job position, workflow, medical terminology, anatomical references, and tips for our EMR software. During my undergraduate research experience, I worked in Dr. William A. Powell's lab on the American Chestnut Restoration Project. As part of this, I designed a research experiment titled “An Evaluation of the Reference Genes in Outcrossed Castanea dentata and Castanea mollissima genotypes using RT-qPCR Expression”. The aim of this study was to understand the stability of reference gene expression in different tissues of outcrossed chestnut plants, testing the viability of several reference genes in American and Chinese chestnut plants. This research is important as it allows target genes to be expressed in these plants in future genetic studies. The reference genes were evaluated using RT-qPCR, providing valuable experience in laboratory techniques and contributing to the research involved in the restoration of American chestnut trees, an important ecological and economic resource in the United States.
