Stunned—that’s how I felt. After 305 miles of smooth riding and 5,500 miles in previous years without a single incident, I found myself sitting in a medical tent with nine stitches in my head, recovering from a crash that threw me headfirst over my handlebars. And yet, with the support of my community, I got up the next morning, got back on my bike, and rode the rest of the 545-mile journey from San Francisco to Los Angeles.This experience of facing a tough challenge, accepting support, and pushing forward is at the heart of my approach to leadership. Over two decades in higher education and public health, I’ve built a career on bringing people together to achieve ambitious goals, foster collaboration, and turn vision into impactful change. Great leaders excel at bringing people together to break down barriers, unstick sticking points, and drive meaningful, lasting change. They know that impactful progress is rarely achieved alone; it takes a collective effort, where diverse perspectives come together to pursue a shared vision. I'm committed to creating an environment where individuals feel empowered to voice ideas, challenge assumptions, and work through obstacles with trust and mutual respect.
