About Devon Roberts
I have been a high school teacher of computer science and English in the Anchorage School District for several years. While there I have worked to create a computer science pathways program that will allow students to take a different computer science course each year of high school as well as provide an opportunity to intern with local IT and content creation firms. Additionally, I have worked on various curriculum projects with the Career Technical Education (CTE) Department within my District to create computer science courses and conduct standards crosswalks for developed courses. I also was part of the revision committee that worked in tandem with the writing committee to revise and update the Alaska State Computer Science Standards. Currently, I am consulting with UAA, an NSF grantee, to create an annual cybersecurity summer camp for area high school students. I am also working with a team at my school that is partnering with Equal Opportunity Schools to increase opportunities and lower barriers for underrepresented students to take AP and other academically rigorous coursework offered at the school. This ties in with my work sponsoring a Girls Who Code Club and with some graduate-level research on ensuring that the diversity in my AP Computer Science Principles and AP Computer Science A courses reflect the diversity in my school. I also work as the Anchorage Education Association's Professional Development Committee. The work we do involves providing professional development workshops, credit courses, and conference-style events for our members based on their perceived needs.
