Completely by accident and not by design, I ended up in the field of Industrial Relations after successfully reading law. My work experience, in some way or another, has been in the field of Industrial Relations since 1994. I have been the Legal Editor of the Industrial Law Reports, practised in this field with one of the big law firms in the country, acted as in-house IR specialist for corporations, managed MECA, a consulting business providing advisory services to employers on IR issues. I currently am the Managing Partner of Dharmen Sivalingam & Partners mainly having conduct for trials and appeals representing employers in industrial or employment disputes. Leading MECA gave me the opportunity to think practically to find solutions for my clients. As a lawyer, the theory and facts mingle and presentation of case becomes critical. The various experiences I have had from different perspectives, in my opinion, gives me the ability to look at a problem and find a holistic solution.Specialties: I specialise in the field of Industrial Relations. Within the IR arena, I provide advice, represent employers in litigation and conduct trainings on all aspects - from the simple under performance or disciplinary issues to the more complicated and challenging areas of mergers and acquisitions, rightsizing, union matters, etc.
