About Dillon Mann

My name is Dillon Mann and I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology with an expected completion date of December 2021. I believe that the research I am currently conducting at NMT in the field of Mechanical Engineering coupled with my engineering experience in previous internships have provided me with the design and development skills needed to solve advanced engineering problems and to be a successful in any role. In my graduate research work and engineering internships, I have consistently demonstrated my ability to work through complex problems and discover the most accurate solutions using CAD modeling and finite element analysis simulation programs. During my research, I have developed optimal strategies for fast photodiode alignment using mechanical design strategies and CAD software learned throughout schooling and internships. During my internships, I was able to communicate and talk through root cause analysis problems with technicians and operators out in the field.A few of the credentials I bring to the table include:+ Optimized photodiode probe orientation to within 0.5% for maximum intensity feedback.+ Verified an oblique angle formula for a PDV system through a matrix within a 1.68% error.+ Increased my field’s total production forecasts by 8% in only 3 months.+ Able to work and manage projects effectively in a team settingI have always enjoyed advanced engineering and complex problem solving and I believe that mypresent and previous experience will help me to work as a part of a team and be an effectiverepresentative of any company. Evaluated whether oblique or refracted angles of fast photodiode probes result in the most accurate representation of velocity profiles by using a photonic Doppler velocimeter (PDV) in dynamic compression experiments. Designed an optical system with multiple translation and rotational stages to better optimize the alignment of sensitive normal and obliquely angled PDV probes. Verified the accuracy of computational FEA programs such as COMSOL with PDV experimental data. Evaluated large velocimetry data sets using Discrete Fourier transform techniques in MATLAB.

Aug 2020 - Present

Petroleum Department System Administrator

Socorro, New Mexico

Administrated 255 student and professor accounts over 32 client computers. Monitored multiple petroleum engineering programs to ensure proper operations and license registration. Designed a manual to assist petroleum department employees in operating a Windows 2012 R2 server

Aug 2016 - Oct 2020

Production Engineering Office Intern

Apache Corporation

Odessa/Midland, Texas Area

Analyzed seventy-three producers in the Sandhills, Dune and Block 31 fields with high fluid levels and determined five potential targets for workovers by utilizing runtime percentage, pump fillage, and production data to gain incremental production of 20 BOPD x 48 BWPD. Performed RCFA on three wells with high failure rates and made recommendations to optimize chemical programs and rod designs. Identified fourteen offset wells completed in the Upper and Lower Clearfork formations to determine potential recompletion zones in the Roepke field. Wrote five AFE’s to clean out BHA’s, repair holes in tubing, and install pumping units to return 29 BOPD x 59 BWPD. Attended Don Nan, Benro, Tuboscope, Permian Enterprises, and Summit ESP shop tours and a FlowCo gas lift training course to expand my knowledge on production operations and equipment.

May 2019 - Aug 2019

Petroleum Engineering Field Intern

Apache Corporation

Hobbs, New Mexico

Worked with senior mechanic and pumpers to learn about containment enlargement, pump jack installation, stuffing box and backpressure valve repair, and the startup of gas-locked ESPs. Assisted supervision on a conversion from ESP to jet pump installation to ensure operations were completed according to the engineer’s specifications. Wrote daily reports and completed rig inspections every morning to verify that a safe working environment had been established. Learned how to read and correlate gamma ray logs and temperature survey logs to help find perforating zones between casing collars.
