Evaluated whether oblique or refracted angles of fast photodiode probes result in the most accurate representation of velocity profiles by using a photonic Doppler velocimeter (PDV) in dynamic compression experiments. Designed an optical system with multiple translation and rotational stages to better optimize the alignment of sensitive normal and obliquely angled PDV probes. Verified the accuracy of computational FEA programs such as COMSOL with PDV experimental data. Evaluated large velocimetry data sets using Discrete Fourier transform techniques in MATLAB.

Analyzed seventy-three producers in the Sandhills, Dune and Block 31 fields with high fluid levels and determined five potential targets for workovers by utilizing runtime percentage, pump fillage, and production data to gain incremental production of 20 BOPD x 48 BWPD. Performed RCFA on three wells with high failure rates and made recommendations to optimize chemical programs and rod designs. Identified fourteen offset wells completed in the Upper and Lower Clearfork formations to determine potential recompletion zones in the Roepke field. Wrote five AFE’s to clean out BHA’s, repair holes in tubing, and install pumping units to return 29 BOPD x 59 BWPD. Attended Don Nan, Benro, Tuboscope, Permian Enterprises, and Summit ESP shop tours and a FlowCo gas lift training course to expand my knowledge on production operations and equipment.

Worked with senior mechanic and pumpers to learn about containment enlargement, pump jack installation, stuffing box and backpressure valve repair, and the startup of gas-locked ESPs. Assisted supervision on a conversion from ESP to jet pump installation to ensure operations were completed according to the engineer’s specifications. Wrote daily reports and completed rig inspections every morning to verify that a safe working environment had been established. Learned how to read and correlate gamma ray logs and temperature survey logs to help find perforating zones between casing collars.
