About Dani Antonio

Hi, I’m Dani Antonio! I’m a student leader and girls’ rights advocate working to create a safer and more equitable world. Whether as the Community Engagement at She’s the First or Senator at UC Davis, I’ve been paving the path for girls and women everywhere because they deserve to not only be aware of their rights, but also become equipped with the tools and resources to fight for them. At She’s the First, I build programs that support girls all over the world. I develop social media content, produce events and campaigns, maintain databases, create shared resources, and ultimately provide front-line support to organization community members. One of my proudest moments of impact in the organization is leading our participation in John and Hank Green's Project for Awesome campaign. My work has won more than $131,000 in grants for She's the First since 2021!In the past year, I also served as a Senator in the Associated Students of University of California, Davis (ASUCD), where I represented over 33,000 undergraduate students at UC Davis. Here, I wrote and voted on legislation, oversaw a $20 million budget, and planned women-centered and wellness events. It was my top priority that women of color were properly represented on the table and that all students felt heard, safe, and represented.Outside of my work in the United States and back at home in the Philippines, I co-founded an organization, called Landas, which advocated for accessible education for Filipino youth. In the peak of the pandemic in 2020, I spearheaded and organized a virtual fundraising campaign to raise funds for grassroots organizations in the Philippines. Through creating a strong online presence, collaborating with local businesses, and coordinating with over 50 organization members, we were able to provide 65 portable computers, 300 hygiene kits, and 300 school supply kits for students in 12 grade levels. Through experiences like these, I am reminded how service has no bounds. No one is ever too young to lead and no one is ever too old to learn something new. With that being said, when I'm not in class, on a plane, or in a zoom call, you can find me learning how to cook a steak, painting a piece for the Louvre, or working on my (future) grammy-nominated album.

Sep 2021 - Present

Community Engagement Intern

My journey at She's the First began in September of 2020 when I volunteered as a Group Leader for their Week of Action. In this role, I supported the organization in facilitating discussions on issues affecting girls and sharing my own insights as a girl advocate myself. It was an empowering experience seeing girls from all around the world come together for one purpose: to make sure that all girls are educated, respected, and heard. Empowered to take a bigger leap of action, I proposed to organize and host a fundraiser with one of the organization's Global Ambassadors, Erika Henningsen, for their Girls Can’t Wait campaign. Through creating social media graphics, connecting with participants online, and producing engaging content to be shared with different parts of the STF community, we were able to raise about $600 for the STF COVID-19 response fund.About two months after the event, I was hired as a Community Engagement Intern for the spring and summer semesters. During this time, I was able to head a social media campaign for our participation in Project for Awesome 2021, which awarded us a grant of about $25,000, to speak with former first lady, Mrs. Michelle Obama, in Pop Sugar's Girl Talk: Knowledge is Our Superpower, and to collaborate with public figures and personalities, like Malia Baker, to discuss girls' rights and amplify girls' voices. In addition, I was also able to host virtual events, manage projects, and create content for social media. Below are some of the highlights of my internship, as well as some of the content I curated:

Jul 2020 - Aug 2021

Chief Executive Officer

Landas Philippines

Philippines

Landas Philippines is a nonprofit organization that I co-founded in 2019 that advocates for accessible, quality education. Through our work as an organization, we have initiated a number of projects and advocacy campaigns to embody our responsibility not just as citizens, but as human beings:• "Project Big Bula Smile" was something we initiated right after traveling to Fiji for a service program. It was our first project as an organization, with only 15 members at that time. The project itself was a “food market” wherein we invited local businesses to sell their food in our school. Through this, we aimed to support local Filipino businesses, while raising money for the Rustic Pathways Fiji education fund. With our collaborative efforts, we were able to raise 50,000 pesos.• "Tala" was a Christmas outreach we did with the children of the Gawad Kalinga Community Development Foundation. With about 20 volunteers and celebrating the season of giving with, we organized a fun-filled day with food, gift bags, and school supply kits for the families at the Gawad Kalinga Pinagsama Village. In the light of the pandemic, we also held a virtual "Tala" with the same community!• "Kapit-bisig sa Panahon ng Pandemya" is a project, which aimed to raise funds for the students of HAMER, Inc. in San Mateo, Rizal, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Through donation drives, social media campaigns, and an online food market, Local with Landas, we were able to raise funds to donate 65 tablets, 300 hygiene, and 300 school supply kits, supporting 300 students in 12 grade levels. As for advocacy campaigns, we've organized the following: 2020 mid-year recap, Learning with Landas, Learn Local Literature, the Online Class Series, and the Voter's Registration Series. Our organization has also provided 1,400 typhoon relief packages and raised funds to supply a fishing boat in 6 cities during typhoon Ulysses in 2020-2021.
