About Jessica Doherty

I’m a multimedia writer, editor, journalist, and producer from New York City currently living in Los Angeles looking for freelance opportunities in digital media, entertainment journalism, and gaming. Currently, I am the Associate Content Director of Center Theatre Group in Los Angeles, where I produce, write, and edit video, social media, and editorial content about the programming of one of the largest regional theaters in the nation. I’m also a Researcher with Hearst’s Alta Journal, a Contributor to The Eastsider, and a reporter with Outlook Newsgroup. I write about the arts, entertainment, local personalities, internet culture, gaming, music, and more. I’m a six-time L.A. Press Club Award Finalist, and one of my pieces about BoJack Horseman won a second-place award for Best Commentary/Analysis of TV/Film Across All Platforms (Print, Radio, TV and Online). I was also a 2023 Foot in the Door Fellow with the organization and a 2022 National Fellowship Finalist for The Kennedy Center's Institute for Theatre Journalism and Advocacy. In May 2020, I graduated from the University of Southern California with a B.A. in Journalism and a B.A. in Theatre. I continued my education at USC and graduated with an M.A. in Specialized Journalism (The Arts) focusing on arts, culture, and entertainment reporting in May 2022. Throughout my time at USC, I was one of the Executive Editors of USC Annenberg Media, overseeing over 450 writers, editors, and multimedia journalists; Editor-in-Chief of AmpersandLA, where I oversaw and edited a variety of arts and culture long-form reporting, essays, and criticism; and an Editorial Team Member and Social Media Manager for the USC Interactive Media and Games Department, where I worked on the social media campaign for the yearly USC Games Expo showcase in partnership with JamCity.Throughout my undergraduate studies, I also gained experience as a director, producer, stage manager, and dramaturg for over 10 independent student productions and USC Visions and Voices events. At this time, I also served on the executive boards of One & All, a company devoted to theater for social change, and dorothy’s friends theater company, which celebrates positive queer storytelling.
