As Manager, ERA Services and Manager, Payer Programming, I directed a team of 10 software engineers supporting/developing systems to process data from hundreds of payers (insurance companies) nationwide to deliver information to over 1,000 clients.

Led 20-member cross-functional department of all facets touching upon ERA's (Electronic Remittance Advices), including Support, Production, Enrollments, NLOB (New Line Of Business) Development, and Core Development.

Designed and developed numerous systems for processing electronic remittance advices (ERA’s). Directed all development initiatives in Payer Operations, including NLOB development, integration of third-party software to facilitate interfacing of provider posting systems with proprietary interactive posting products. Written in C on VMS and Unix platforms.

Through corporate acquisitions, my software development career has spanned small entrepreneurial firms as well as a large Fortune 50 company (McKesson).My strengths include problem solving, superb written communication skills, in-depth knowledge of classic procedural programming languages like COBOL and C, and a steep learning curve that allows me to rapidly command new programming languages and software development methodologies.I have designed and developed numerous systems for processing electronic remittance advices (ERA’s), including an inbound payer file analyzer used by 99% of all inbound payers. To date, this system has saved the company over $1.4 million in development costs.I have incorporated dual-format capability for file version progression.I designed and developed a replacement system for legacy model-driven remit processor resulting in an 84% improvement to file throughput.

Managed staff of 4 software programmers; oversaw the conversion of client product from DOS-based character screens to Windows.

Designed and developed major portions of a medical claims clearinghouse: a complex system of applications spanning multiple platforms for the purpose of submitting medical claims electronically from hospitals to health insurance companies. Written in COBOL on HP and MS-DOS platforms.
