About Doug Mitchell
Mitchell’s experience includes work in southern England, northern Mexico, the midwestern US, and the Southwest. His Southwest project experience includes directing excavations on a number of Arizona projects including the Ironwood Village site in the northern Tucson Basin, a portion of the historic town site in Prescott, the Hohokam villages of S'edav Va'aki (formerly Pueblo Grande), Los Guanacos, the Grand Canal Ruins, and others in Phoenix. He also managed a number of large surveys in Arizona and New Mexico for the USFS. Numerous journal articles, edited monographs, and a co-edited book have resulted from these studies. He served as president of the Arizona Archaeological Council (AAC) in 2007, and editor for the AAC’s Journal of Arizona Archaeology from 2019-2021. He served on the Register of Professional Archaeologists (RPA) Board from 2012-2017.
