Doug Peterson was elected as Nebraska’s Attorney General in 2014, and was re-elected in 2018. As Attorney General Peterson initiated important legal efforts on both the state and national level. On the state level he led in the creation of strong human trafficking laws, and then oversaw both promoting statewide awareness and strong prosecution under those laws. He also coordinated a state wide effort with the University of Nebraska Medical Center to address opioid prescription abuse. Under his two terms his criminal prosecution team successfully prosecuted several significant first degree murder cases. Peterson also expanded the Consumer Protection Bureau in order to better protect Nebraska consumers.On the national level Peterson served on the Executive Board of the National Association of Attorneys General(NAAG). With NAAG he also served as Co-Chair of the NAAG Antitrust Section, and also Co-Chair of the Consumer Protection Section. In 2022 Peterson was selected by his fellow Attorneys General as the recipient of the Kelly-Wyman award, given to the Attorney General who has done the most to advance the objectives and ideals of the association. Peterson played an important role in developing significant bipartisan multistate antitrust lawsuits, and investigating the impact on social media platforms impacting our youth.Prior to taking office in 2015 Peterson spent 30 years as a litigation lawyer in both state and federal court. He started as a County criminal prosecutor in 1985, then three years as a civil litigator at the state attorney generals office. In 1990 Peterson went into private practice focusing on employment law litigation in federal court, and personal injury and business litigation primarily in state courts.In returning to private practice, Peterson offers his 38 years of experience in the litigation framework, but also provides a vast amount of private and governmental experience to help clients develop strategies and policies to strengthen and protect their interest.
