Leadership responsibilities while assigned the Pacific Fleet included; Ground Training Officer for the Squadron and the Officer in charge of the Command Training Team for indoctrination of the new junior enlisted sailors to the Fleet environment. Aircraft Division Officer, responsible for five Jr. Officers, six senior enlisted chiefs and no fewer than one hundred and twenty enlisted men assigned to six branch shops and a multi-million dollar budget. Officer in Charge of a detachment sent to “Operation Desert Shield/Storm” from VRC-30, departing December 7, 1990 until April 12, 1991. Directly responsible for 17 enlisted men, three officers and a 40 million dollar cargo aircraft. Tasked with the organization and deployment of said 21 man detachment in one week’s time, a task usually taking months, to provide logistical support to the deployed carrier. Detachment achieved a 98% sortie completion rate, at the same time managing the maintenance and personnel of the detachment. Re-assigned to VT-19 NAS Meridian MS as an instructor pilot responsible for the training of student Naval Aviators in the T-2C jet trainer. Duties also included Public Affairs Officer and Assistant Operations Officer responsible for the day to day operation of the squadron, as well as flight instruction in Familiarization, Formation, all phases of the Instrument Flight syllabus, Carrier Qualification and Out of Control Flight segments of pilot training. Assigned to VAW 120 as assistant Pilot training Officer responsible for updating the pilot training syllabus and NATOPS Manual as well as briefing newly assigned pilots on local course rules and systems of the C-2 aircraft. -
