Analyzed library automation needs and requirements, proposed actions and implemented solutions by acquiring, installing, and supporting new hardware and software. Provided continuous hardware and software technical support for library computer systems, workstations, and related peripherals. Upgraded and patched operating systems and various software packages, and upgraded hardware as needed. Maintained and administered library website, email accounts, and all related web-based services. Provided wired LAN (Local Area Network) and wireless LAN network support, and acted as the prime liaison with the various telecommunications and library systems vendors. Administered and maintained telephone and messaging systems. Provided end user training and acted as the Help Desk. Managed contracts for the building infrastructure and grounds maintenance and upkeep. Supervised the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor, and oversaw any contract negotiations and bids with various infrastructure maintenance vendors. Directed maintenance and repairs of HVAC (Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning), plumbing, and electrical systems. Successfully secured major compensatory funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in conjunction with the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services (OES) following significant building damage incurred during the El Niño storms of 1997-1998. Oversaw bidding and contract negotiations with vendors seeking to resolve and mitigate the primary causes of the storm damage. Managed the final project to rebuild (and reopen after 1 and 1/2 years of closure) the Library's damaged basement and Public Auditorium area to pre-storm conditions.

Duties consisted of assisting students in the uses and retrieval of educational materials in a multi-media laboratory primarily directed towards language instruction. The position required a great deal of patience combined with the ability to manage people in a friendly and helpful way. Responsibilities included the usage and maintenance of an electronic attendance system which keeps track of student hours spent in the lab. This data was used in a variety of reports which the Instructional Aide was required to run. This position also required writing procedural instructions for the facilitation of this system in-house. In addition, many educational software programs were used by the students, and the position required a comfortable familiarity with these. Other software programs used at that time were Microsoft Word 6.0 and WordPerfect 6.1, both in the Windows 3.11 environment, as well as the Microsoft Office 97 package on top of the Windows 95 environment.

Worked in three positions at a large public library. Initially, worked as a library page, whose duties were the processing, sorting, and shelving of books and related library materials. Responsibilities also included working in the periodicals department, where the focus was working the public desk and assisting patrons with the use of our automated databases and microfilm readers. Worked next as a circulation clerk, where the primary tasks involved the patron transactions and the creation and maintenance of their database records. Lastly, worked as a technical services clerk, whose chief duties were to categorize and catalogue the materials after they passed through the acquisitions department. The cataloging of library materials was primarily achieved through bibliographic records which allowed for the editing of fields to match our own local formats. Original cataloging was achieved through the use of verso-page information and the AACR (Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, Second Edition) handbooks.

Provided one-to-one instruction in the art of playing the classical guitar, from beginning to advanced levels. Also assisted in the sales of handmade concert guitars by well-known luthiers and assisted in the sales of all related materials.
