Dr. Ann M. Bennett is an evaluation and research leader with 20 years of experience in academic and non-profit settings. She specializes in program evaluation methods, research methodologies, data analytics, cultural studies, and anti-deficit frameworks. As a leader, she promotes innovation, inclusion, and collaboration as basic principles for success. Dr. Bennett began her career as a secondary educator teaching Latin, History, English Language Arts, and Reading. After earning her Ph.D. in Education from The University of Tennessee, she joined the faculty at Kennesaw State University as an Assistant Professor of Educational Research. Her academic research countered dominant deficit discourses and perspectives affecting marginalized and minoritized communities through the use of photovoice and experimental and progressive ethnographic methods. Her work has been published in various academic journals, edited volumes, and conference proceedings. Upon leaving academia, she joined Harlem Children’s Zone as the Director of Program Evaluation where she focused on innovating processes and methods in the area of evaluation and data analytics. Dr. Bennett is an advocate for disability rights, and she has spent much of her professional career working toward access and equity for the disability community. In 2017, she gave a TEDx Talk entitled "An Invisible Disability in an Able-Bodied World: The Reality of Living With Type 1 Diabetes" about her own experiences living with an invisible disability and chronic illness. She advocated for a shift in both policies and paradigms regarding access and what constituted equity during the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, she has mentored disabled students, faculty, and colleagues through navigating academia and the workforce as a disabled person.
