I am an international privacy lawyer (JD) and the Head of Privacy at WEX - a multinational fintech payments and Health benefits company with an annual revenue of over 2.3 billion USD - where I advise on and lead privacy compliance across the United States, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region. As a privacy leader, I focus on creating pragmatic, risk-based, and cost-effective compliance solutions under the GDPR, CCPA, PIPEDA and other international and US state privacy laws. At WEX, I also chair our AI Governance Committee.Before WEX, I worked in the beverage industry as Global Head of Data Protection and privacy legal counsel for Carlsberg Breweries in Denmark (with nearly 10 billion USD in annual revenue and over 35,000 global employees), where I was an original member of the privacy team. I later managed over twenty legal and compliance staff across eighteen European consumer markets, including local head legal counsel.Strategically, I build corporate privacy programs from the ground up, advise business on complex laws and risks, lead by consensus, and facilitate - not block - business initiatives. I also have hands-on experience with AI and offshoring projects, writing legal opinions, conducting privacy impact assessments and product reviews, drafting and negotiating privacy contracts (incl. for IT and SaaS), processing data subject/consumer rights requests, managing privacy security incidents, creating privacy notices and policies, and using OneTrust.Earlier in my legal career I testified as a witness for a UK House of Commons committee, presented to the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, commentated as a legal expert in world media (incl. with the BBC), was cited in the Supreme Court of Canada and UK parliamentary debates, and achieved tenure as a law professor with over twenty scholarly publications. I have a JD, LLM, and Doctor of Civil Law degree (a law equivalent to a PhD, by dissertation).I am proficient in Danish and German, with a reading knowledge of French.
