I am a Romanticist with interdisciplinary expertise in the long nineteenth-century. My work explores global, transcultural encounters, particularly Anglophone literature’s engagements with Asia and Australasia. I'm also a nonfiction author, and teach creative writing in addition to a range of literature. At Monash I coordinate the Honours programme (taught MA equivalent) and am, with Michelle Smith, Director of the Interdisciplinary Nineteenth Century Studies Research Unit. At present I co-edit the Australasian Journal of Irish Studies and am Treasurer for the Irish Studies Association of Australia and New Zealand. In light of my work on Sino-British exchange I have been elected a Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society.My interests:- Romanticism- Victorian Literature- Irish studies- Anglophone literature and Asia, especially China- Classical reception- Creative writing- Literature and religion
