Dissertation research in the laboratory of Prof. Bertrand García-Moreno- Took a research question-driven approach to learning in a field that was new to me:-- Developed NMR dynamics methods not previously used in the lab-- Performed challenging, physics-based data analyses in the context of biological questions-- Developed reproducible data analysis workflows with open source Python code librariesI showed that proteins exhibit changes in backbone fluctuations, including partial unfolding, near ionizable residues as a function of changes in pH. My published work contributed to efforts to improve accuracy of calculations of electrostatic effects in proteins. Papers that make use of my results as benchmarks have since come out from computational research groups in the field.- Gained mentorship, teaching, and curriculum design experience:-- Head teaching assistant for a scientific computing course-- Researched best practices for backward design, student-centered learning, flipped classroom models-- Teaching assistant for biological physics and general physics courses-- Individual and small-group tutor for general physics.
