In this role I worked to accelerate the pace of innovation at EnginZyme by supporting our automation activities. In particular, I work closely with our research scientists to identify how tasks, such as record keeping, data collection & analysis and experiment preparation, can be made more reliable, efficient and scalable. The main platforms that facilitate this are our LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems) and a portfolio of Jupyter notebooks.

My role at this startup was to collaborate with other team members to develop the underlying chemistries of our metallic sodium-based battery designs. This also involves development of testing and production processes.The battery chemistries are based on novel electrolyte and electrode materials and deliver outstanding energy and power density.

In this project my team of three took our patented flow-battery chemistry and prepared it for commercialisation in a spin-off company. The primary tasks were benchmarking, scale-up and supply-chain development.

My work at Aalto was focused on the electrochemistry of transition metals in a novel class of liquids known as Deep Eutectic Solvents. Initially, the application of electroanalytical techniques to determine the key properties that quantify redox processes in these liquids was investigated. Once these techniques were demonstrated to work then the application of these liquids in Redox Flow Batteries was investigated.

My role at Stored Solar primarily involved the development of prototypes for their iron-oxide based photoelectrolyser. In addition I shared responsibility for operation of the spray pyrolysis rig, electrochemical characterisation of the photoanodes and cost modelling.

My idea for Cygnet took form when I noted the possibility to use a simple web-based system to allow people to share and work on documents. Together with my business partner I developed this idea and decided to found a company which would utilise a web-based sytem to allow the numerous different actors in the corporate managment industry (lawyers, accountants, tax advisors, etc.) to access a centrally managed document repository, with finally-grained access and modification rights based on their user profile. After three years I sold my stake in the business to my co-founder and decided to focus solely on electrochemistry.

My work at Teleplan centred on writing software to extract information from their database system which was used to track the mobile phone repair work performed within their facility. The software would then use this information to automatically prepare management reports and perform billing to external partners for warranty repairs
