David Wickenden joined AARP in August, 2015, to establish a corporate strategy function in the new Enterprise Strategy and Innovation group, and to lead corporate strategy, strategic planning and development for the organization. He is responsible for AARP's annual strategic planning process in partnership with finance, and for providing ongoing strategic direction, business intelligence and insights, and planning and tactical support for large cross-functional teams, business units and strategic priorities.

Established and led a new global corporate strategy function for this $550 million global communications consultancy, reporting to the CEO. As chief strategy officer, drove organizational innovation and change through new ideas, products, skills and operational structures in evolving capabilities needed for 21st-century communications leadership and competitive advantage. Translated vision, mission and values into actionable long-term initiatives, new products and services that helped drive record-setting corporate growth for three consecutive years across three global regions and 84 offices worldwide, recognized by multiple industry awards.

Established and led a new global digital strategy function to develop, grow and integrate digital/social media capabilities across worldwide geographies, practice groups and industry sectors, covering online/offline communications, web design and technical operations, reporting to the CEO. As chief digital officer, advised executive and senior management and clients in the strategic and operational development of digital and social media to help manage reputation, achieve integrated marketing objectives, grow business, and evolve the systems, structures and processes needed for operational alignment, leading to the growth of integrated digital/social revenues to $110 million over four years.

As a member of the start-up leadership team for the firm's Washington, DC office, beginning as an Account Supervisor, helped grow the operation from a $1.1 million business with a staff of nine to $29 million with a staff of 120 in six years. Established and led several practice groups including digital, corporate and technology. Created and led the operation's strategic planning process, professional training and staff development program and administrative services. Led numerous teams in building large, multifaceted communications programs integrating public relations, public affairs, non-profit and government relations disciplines. Clients included AOL, PBS, AARP, Bell Atlantic, Sprint, RBOC Alliance for Competitive Communications, the U.S. Departments of State and Homeland Security and the Library of Congress.
