Serving in the University's central Platforms team, with responsibility for:• University DNS infrastructure, services, records, and standards;• the University's Linux Desktop Service (LDS);… and significant involvement with:• Linux server fleet management, including configuration management (using Puppet);• Systems monitoring (currently using Grafana, Prometheus, and AlertManager);• Incident response and investigation, including security incidents;• Central load-balancer front-end.

Serving as the #2 IT officer for the Department of Statistics, working as a senior technical lead and line-manager for two other computer officers.In addition to first- and second-line technical support and management responsibilities — including deputising for the Computing Manager, and contributing to and liaising with department and faculty-level IT Committees — project work also included:• working as technical lead and requirements analyst for a project to overhaul audio-visual systems;• specifying, developing, and deploying a new reliable, performant, and scalable shared data storage infrastructure (using Ceph);• deploying new highly-available VM hosting infrastructure (using Proxmox VE);• introducing configuration management system for the department's technical estate (using Ansible);• building new system and service monitoring infrastructure (using Icinga2, VictoriaMetrics);• deploying network fabric configuration logging (with RANCID);• developing and deploying a refreshed highly-available user-facing webmail facility (with RoundCube);• supporting a major refresh of the department's public-facing web site with third-party developers;• developing and deploying refreshed versions of the department's managed Fedora and Debian Linux desktop and server operating system builds, including automating maintenance procedures;• designing and deploying new infrastructure and writing appropriate tooling to support automatic certificate acquisition and renewals for departmental services (using BIND and dehydrated);• selecting and deploying a new facility for storing IT secret key material;• supporting the creation of a new Small Research Facility (SRF) accounting framework for the department's high-performance computing services;• performing a comprehensive security review of all the department's systems, and planning and prioritising improvements.

Serving full-time in OxCERT, the University of Oxford's central IT operational security team. Duties including participating in incident detection and response, and developing and maintaining the team's technical estate, which included technical vulnerability scanning infrastructure, log ingestion pipeline, automation, ticketing system, IDS, SIEM, and other functions.

Serving the University of Cambridge as a Computing Officer in central IT services. Work includes:• Responsible for the development, deployment, and management of a 1000-machine strong fleet of managed Linux desktops and remote login servers;• Developed and deployed supporting infrastructure using the Ceph open-source distributed storage software; • Supported the CamCERT security team by providing technical support and advice to staff and students;• Serve as one of the University postmasters, with responsibility for the effective processing, filtering, delivery, and storage of email.• Teach the Shell Scripting for Scientists course termly.

Research Assistant at the London e-Science Centre, at the Department of Computing, Imperial College.Worked on a number of systems and projects, including:• Development of tools and processes to integrate the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) Compute Grid (LCG) software distribution with the existing MARS super-computing cluster at Imperial;• Working within the London Tier-2 group of the GridPP project;• Participating in the inaugural meeting of the European GridCC project, scoping the quality-of-service elements of the project;• Deploying and maintaining a Condor HPC facility to support teaching and research within the Department.

Served as a full-time member of staff in the Java Technology Center for the work-placement component of my 4-year undergraduate degree. Worked with the Java ORB team, working on two projects: overhauling their legacy unit-testing framework by re-writing it to use JUnit, and building tools for visualizing the contents of a CORBA Nameservice.
