As a Grant Manager at SME I help biotech companies develop SBIR and STTR grant applications to grow their businesses.

Studied the interactions between Mycobacterium tuberculosis and alveolar macrophages.

Our lab is focused on understanding the bacterial mechanisms that enable Mycobacterium tuberculosis to persist despite a robust immune response. My thesis work focuses on understanding mechanisms regulating bacterial membrane vesicle production and specialized protein secretion systems in M. tuberculosis.

Our site focused on water quality testing for local wells and municipal water utilities across the US and Canada. In addition to general lab responsibilities, I was in charge of testing samples for the presence of fecal coliforms, enumerating bacterial/fungal loads in samples, and checking for bacterial spores. I also performed monthly QA/QC measures.

I was responsible for supervising referees, maintain the safety of participants, acting as a first responder for medical emergencies. I gained experience in managing a small group and in helping to resolve conflict.

From 2009-2011 I helped graduate students complete their research, while also working on my own project. I worked in the lab of Dr. Douglas I. Johnson studying the pathogenic yeast Candida albicans. During my senior year at the University of Vermont, I completed an honors thesis looking at the inhibition of biofilms formed by clinical Candida albicans.
