I became involved with volunteering at the AIGA Nebraska chapter after attending their events for two years and deciding that I wanted to give back to the community in a direct manner. I ended up holding a chair seat on the board of directors as the Director of Education for the entire state, serving as a direct contact and promotor of new graphic design students to our area. What my role encompassed:• Served as the main spokesperson for the Nebraska AIGA chapter to all educational outlets, students, and educators.• Developed relationships with schools and educators to build student membership, help start student-specific sub-chapters, and bring awareness of activities for inclusion.• Acted as liaison between the AIGA Nebraska State-chapter and local AIGA student groups. • Was the main contact between local AIGA student groups and the AIGA National branch.• Organized, budgeted, and executed an annual student event focused on brining local designers and local students together, culminating in a large-scale portfolio review for students by local professionals at an event named "Me, Myself & Design" which is still running to this day.• Created an annual scholarship to provide continuing education opportunities to Nebraska-based graphic design students.• Facilitated and organized the beginning of a mentorship program for the state, setting up the framework for on-going professional relationships between professionals of all skill levels.

I was brought into The State of Nebraska to build an internal website which housed employee benefits information, with a very direct focus on ensuring that the site was accessible both from a disability standpoint, but also from technology standpoint since the State of Nebraska (at this time) still had some computers running Internet Explorer 7. Role Responsibilities:- Build a fully functional, US-Government compliment, WCAG-accessible internal website in under two months with no existing design or previous website to use for reference.- Technology stack included HTML, CSS, Actionscript (Flash-based programming), Javascript, and jQuery.- Submit ongoing Internet Explorer 7 and 8 reports to upper management to ensure US-Government compliance throughout the build process. - Regularly attend meetings with legislative representatives and present progress and realistic completion-date goals to a non-technical audience.- Maintain an extremely strict development and launch deadline- Assist with the design of the website itself, ensuring that all US Government mandated elements are accounted for, improving legibility from given designs for higher accessibility, and improving UI/UX throughout the process.
