As a member of the Renewables in Remote Communities team, I worked to advance effective policies for renewable energy and diesel reduction in remote Indigenous communities, with a focus on supporting community-led initiatives and projects. As leading energy policy experts, advocates, and conveners, we drove toward and demonstrate alignment between remote and Indigenous communities, provincial/territorial governments, utilities and other key stakeholders. In addition to reducing diesel dependency and meeting climate objectives, a key value in our work was that energy policy solutions must respect government commitments to reconciliation, uphold Indigenous rights and title, and offer leadership, economic development and self-determination opportunities to remote Indigenous communities and their people.I also led internal change efforts at Pembina as the chair of our Reconciliation and Right Relations working group, in close collaboration with our Indigenous advisors and staff.
