Based in the industrial precinct of Yatala, just south of Brisbane, Queensland, it has a purpose built GMP manufacturing facility which manufactures for Australian and international clients. The business is owned by Grant Peterson who acquired it from the founder in December 2008. UML holds APVMA GMP registrations and manufactures veterinary, pet care and horse products. UML main client is Complete Pet & Vet Supplies Pty Ltd, located adjacent to UML. However it also manufactures for a range of other clients locally and throughout Asia. CPV is also owned by Grant Peterson. CPV is essentially a distributor of own-branded products made locally or in China.

This business was created from a zero base, starting in 2002 with the able assistance of Graeme Thompson and Paul Viskovich, and the team which we subsequently recruited.

As CEO, the business employed over 400 staff in Australia and 1100 in New Zealand. Through acquisitions and organic growth I took the group from a base revenue of $NZ 70 million annually to $NZ 220 million.Excell’s key areas of activity were at the time, 60% Civil Works (roading maintenance, utilities maintenance), 30% Outdoor Spaces Management (Parks & Reserves & Natural Resources Maintenance) and 10% Property Services including facilities maintenance.Excell Corporation’s activities then included a range of large divisions and regional operations across New Zealand and Australia: Located in most major towns and regions the length of New Zealand, headquartered in Auckland; Australian Subsidiary based in Melbourne and maintained 60% of Melbourne parks & reserves and water & drainage, 30% of Canberra, 30% Brisbane, major parks in NSW and the whole of the City of Charles Sturt in SA.Excell Corporation business units included Civil Engineering, Design, Subdivision and Civil Works, roading, quarrying, waste disposal, municipal water supplies, water and drainage, parks & reserves, building services and engineering services.

It was formerly known as Fernz Corporation, headquartered in Auckland, New Zealand and listed on both the NZ and Australian Stock Exchange.In 1995 I joined the corporation as its Corporate Development Manager, reporting to the Group Managing Director. The role had responsibility for International Corporate Development, R&D, Technical Services, IT, and management of the Nufarm New Zealand operating businesses with combined revenues of $NZ 60 million.After leading the acquisition of the Laporte Group, and merging it with existing operations, the Fernz Chemicals Group was formed and was grown to $NZ 400 million annual revenue.• Manufacturing and Distribution Operations (NZ, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, China: Construction Chemicals, Timber Treatment Chemicals, Water Treatment Chemicals, Sulphur fertiliser, Animal Health Products, Herbicides, Human Health.• Chemicals Distribution Operations: Importation & distribution of bulk superphosphate, urea, sulphur, plastics and PVC resins, water treatment resins, and speciality chemicals into NZ and Australia – over 1 million tonnes per annum, consequently enjoying very good shipping rates from USA, Canada, Middle East, Asia.

Carter Holt Harvey Packaging is one of Australasia's largest fibre packaging manufacturers and today has ca. 1800 staff, 15 manufacturing facilities and 20 sales offices in NZ, Australia and Fiji. The group exports to Australasia, Asia, the Pacific and South America. It is a part of the large international packaging business assembled by one of New Zealand’s most successful businessmen, Graeme Hart. The Marketing Manager was responsible for all sales and marketing activities in the division, including responsibility for Case Division National Account Business Development, Technical and Key Account Management. The Case Group was made up of 11 regional companies, including manufacturing operations in Fiji and Chile, and had $NZ 250 million annual turnover.
