I have a strong interest in the application of engineering to push the boundaries of medical technology. I am currently working as a mechanical engineer at a product design consultancy, helping to design and develop the next generation of medical devices. My experience has allowed me to qualify as a Certified SolidWorks Professional, develop my skills in mechanical design and finite element analysis and gain experience in working within the scope of medical device regulatory requirements.In 2019, I gained a First Class Master’s degree in mechanical engineering with biomedical. During my degree I completed a variety of projects, including the redesign of an external fracture fixation device, and the design and development of a physical model of the ureter for use in testing the deployment and performance of urological devices. With this latter project, I won the Best Medical Engineering Undergraduate Poster at the iMechE Healthcare Technologies Student and Early Career Awards 2018.I also have experience of working with composites having spent a placement year with an engineering company making precision components for the aerospace industry. This gave me valuable insight into the use of new materials in a range of engineering challenges.
