Independent economist with over 20 years professional experience, including industry sector analysis, various thematic and technical areas of international trade agreements, WTO disciplines and regulations, with a special focus on preferential market access and related trade issues. Consultancies and assignments undertaken for various local and international organizations including the Trade Law Centre (tralac Associate), ACP Secretariat, African Union (AU), UN/WTO International Trade Center (ITC), Imani Development, Commonwealth Secretariat, World Bank, European Commission, SA Dept. Private sector work often focused on technical trade-related support and strategy including successfully helping clients solve complex customs-related trade challenges in different countries. Specialist knowledge includes Rules of Origin and related aspects of preferential trade arrangements (regional and international - Africa, Europe, USA, Asia). Advisory services and consulting assignments, private and public sector capacity-building and training workshops as well as conference speaking assignments in 30 African countries, as well as in Europe and Asia. Current / recent work includes technical assistance to Sudan's WTO accession process for the International Trade Center (Geneva); advisor and consultant on multi-year UK Government funded Trade Forward SA (TFSA) programme in Southern Africa focusing on the business community through BSO intermediaries in growing regional and international export trade and value chain integration; technical and training support to BSOs through the GIZ on technical themes of the EU-SADC EPA; management and technical support of tralac's multi-year US-Africa AGOA project supported by USAID/ATI; current author (2022, 2023) of the AFDB African Visa Openness Index (AVOI) report.
