Met with the fire chief and mayor for them to sign on and endorse me. Coordinated a press event to give them an award and get me wearing a FirePup costume, them, a fire truck, and a bunch of kids on the front page of their local newspaper to enhance the program's credibility. I Contacted the elementary school principals for enrollment numbers, assembled the public education program, and determined the cost. Developed a data base of top business leaders ranked by annual revenue and identified their location. From the larger on down, persuasively communicated with them and caused them to contribute the funds necessary to pay for the program in each city for which I worked. All without training, supervision, or provocation from NFSC Headquarters in Michigan. The school teachers, administrators, fire departments, business leaders, and the NFSC, together helped prevent countless fires, property damage, untold pain and suffering from burn injuries, and deaths of children and adults in two of the highest fire fatality rated states in the U.S..
