Bellingham, Washington Area

Taught an intro to news writing course, led a class of 18 students that met twice a week for two hours over a 10-week quarter. Course load included quizzes, writing exercises, personality profiles and required readings.

Slot edit and line edit on sports desk, overseeing a staff of 10 editors and publishing three print editions under tight deadlines every night. Serve as a point of contact to reporters in the field who are covering games or reporting breaking news. Publish stories and build photo galleries for the newspaper’s Web site while also helping update the content.

Helped coordinate The Post's high school sports coverage, with a focus on teams in Loudoun County. Oversaw all the sports content on loudounextra.com, posted stories, uploaded photos and coordinated videos. Worked closely with reporters, offered feedback on their writing and helped them improve.

Copy edited, slot edited and line edited on two desks of newspaper with one of the 10 largest circulations. Edited stories, wrote headlines and helped coordinate a staff of editors as it produced a daily section with three deadlines. Also worked on the sports desk as a copy editor and backup slot from July 2009 to January 2010.
