As a bilingual member of the City Manager's Office Communications Division, I provided support to City departments and on Citywide communications and marketing projects, both in English and Spanish. I took the lead in my team's efforts to be more inclusive in our external communications and more effectively engage a community that is about 25 percent Latino. In my first year with the City of Hillsboro, the fifth-largest city in Oregon:* We launched a Spanish-language Facebook page, Ciudad de Hillsboro, that now has more than 1,500 followers and provides an avenue for City updates from all departments and helpful resources from community partners. I made sure regular updates were shared on this platform, posting 2-3 times per day during the week and 1-2 times on weekends.* I cultivated a relationship with Elemento Latino, a public-affairs program that broadcasts primarily on Facebook and has more than 10,000 followers. I appeared on a monthly basis to share important City updates and helpful resources in Spanish, and those appearances collectively were viewed more than 18,000 times.* As a result of the relationship I maintained with Elemento Latino, the City of Hillsboro for the first time ever produced a Spanish-language version of its annual update to the community, the State of the City.* I took ownership of Creciendo Juntos, COH's Spanish-language email newsletter, drafting it and making sure it got sent out twice a month, while growing the number of subscribers.* When the pandemic first took hold, our division launched a micro-website for news announcements in Spanish, which I helped keep steadily populated with updates that we’ve primarily translated in-house in an effort to make sure important updates reach all of our community members in a timely manner.* I incorporated Spanish subtitles to more of the video content that our team produces, such as City Council recaps or special messages from Mayor Steve Callaway.

Greater Seattle Area

* Lead strategy for connecting Sightline's work to an increasingly diverse target audience of Northwest media and decision makers. * Develop thoughtful, strategic outreach plans for promoting Sightline's research programs and continually pitch stories.* Manage incoming media requests of researchers by scheduling meetings and providing relevant resources for reporters.* Grow Sightline's media list and facilitate deeper relationships between researchers and reporters, making Sightline the "go-to" source for Nothwest sustainability topics.

Greater Seattle Area

* Helped run the award-winning sports department of the largest newspaper in Washington State, with a focus on pro sports coverage and enterprise/long-form storytelling. * Oversaw our pro sports coverage from 2016-17, managing a team of reporters and freelancers who cover anything related to the Seahawks, Mariners, Sounders, Storm and Reign.* Oversaw our college sports coverage from 2014-16, managing a team of reporters and freelancers who primarily cover University of Washington, Washington State and Gonzaga sports.* Oversaw a copy desk of 7-10 editors from 2013-16, which included transitioning the team to new content management systems and emphasizing greater digital contributions. * Worked closely with our web producers on our digital report, collaborating on special projects and looking for ways to broaden our reach. Helped increase the number of followers to our Twitter account by 160 percent in my first 52 months.* Coordinated Seahawks coverage on game days on our print and digital platforms, working on-site for all regular-season and playoff home games. * Planned and edited a best-selling commemorative book highlighting the Seahawks' Super-Bowl winning 2013 season that to date has generated the company six figures in profit.* Co-chaired The Seattle Times' Diversity and Inclusion Task Force, which worked with newsroom leadership to craft a diversity mission statement, set up guidelines and best practices for journalists who are covering sensitive stories, and also helped oversee news coverage related to issues of race and gender as an Assistant Metro Editor from Aug.-Nov. 2017.

Bellingham, Washington Area

Taught an intro to news writing course, led a class of 18 students that met twice a week for two hours over a 10-week quarter. Course load included quizzes, writing exercises, personality profiles and required readings.

Slot edit and line edit on sports desk, overseeing a staff of 10 editors and publishing three print editions under tight deadlines every night. Serve as a point of contact to reporters in the field who are covering games or reporting breaking news. Publish stories and build photo galleries for the newspaper’s Web site while also helping update the content on our various sports pages online.

Helped coordinate The Post's high school sports coverage, with a focus on teams in Loudoun County. Oversaw all the sports content on loudounextra.com, posted stories, uploaded photos and coordinated videos. Worked closely with reporters, offered feedback on their writing and helped them improve.

Copy edited, slot edited and line edited on two desks of newspaper with one of the 10 largest circulations. Edited stories, wrote headlines and helped coordinate a staff of editors as it produced a daily section with three deadlines. Also worked on the sports desk as a copy editor and backup slot from July 2009 to January 2010.

Worked on copy desk of nationally-recognized sports section in various roles. Served as copy editor, slot editor and line editor while helping produce a national and New York edition under tight deadlines on a daily basis.

Was a reporter on several college beats, including University of Portland men's basketball, Portland State football and women's basketball. Broke news stories during a coaching scandal involving the Oregon women's basketball program. Was part of the team of reporters covering the Trail Blazers' deep run in the 2000 NBA playoffs.
