Commanding Officer And ProfessorNorthwestern University/Illinois Institute Of Technology 2008-2011 Jul 2008 - Jul 2011Led a staff of fifteen in the training and education of over 100 Midshipmen, Marines, and Sailors for the Chicago Area Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps. Personally taught the cap-stone course in Leadership and Ethics to help prepare students for the moral dilemmas and ethical challenges they will face in their professional lives. Ensured leadership development was the most important element of students' progress. Integrated Operational Risk Management into all phases of training, resulting in zero mishaps. Implemented a new strategic vision for the Consortium, captured succinctly in the program's new motto - "Building Strong Leaders for America's 21st Century Navy/Marine Corps Team." Efforts led to the commissioning of 56 new officers in the Navy and Marine Corps, helping ensure a bright future for the country's Naval Services.

U.S. Defense And Naval AttacheEmbassy Of The United States Of America Jul 2006 - Jul 2008U.S. Defense and Naval Attaché Served as principal military advisor to US Ambassador, and Section Head on Embassy Country Team. Developed strategic vision for the long term advancement of U.S. national interests in Peru and all of South America. Planned and executed multiple high level visits to the embassy and host nation, including a visit by the U.S. Secretary of Defense. Escorted the Peruvian Chief of Naval Operations and the Peruvian Minister of Defense on separate visits to the United States. Led a multi-service/multi-national staff of twelve. Implemented comprehensive policy reforms that fostered teamwork and a high level of esprit de corps among the attachés and support staff. Result was the development of the Defense Attaché Office (DAO) into a net contributor to the overall U.S. mission and the creation of a tremendous spirit of cooperation between the DAO and the other federal agencies represented in the embassy.

Commanding OfficerU.S. Navy Support Facility Jun 2004 - Jun 2005Led 3100 U.S. military, civilian, and third country national contract employees across sixteen tenant commands on the Navy's only isolated major shore command, located on the island of Diego Garcia in the British Indian Ocean Territories. Provided logistic support to joint forces deployed to the Indian Ocean and Arabian Gulf in support of U.S. national objectives, including operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. Implemented visionary ideas, including Virtual Ombudsman, on-island Fleet and Family Support Office, and high impact training on critical subjects such as fraternization, alcohol abuse, and sexual assault prevention. Expertly managed an annual budget of $50 M and a plant value of $850 M. Result was improved readiness, a 100% mission accomplishment rate and selection as the #1 of 6 installations and winner of the regional Installation Excellence Award - the first time ever for Navy Support Facility Diego Garcia.
