As a Senior Scientist at the New York Structural Biology Center (NYSBC) I focus on the application of electron microscopy (EM) to biomedical research by providing expertise and resources for understanding both molecular and cellular structures. I have extensive experience designing, renovating, operating, and managing cryoEM facilities. As part of my day-to-day responsibilities, I lead the professional staff to maintain, operate, and assist users to utilize EM scientific instrumentation including 18 electron microscopes of which 13 are autoloader systems (and 9 are Titan Krios instruments). As the manager of the National Center for CryoEM Access and Training (NCCAT), a NIH cryoEM service center, I engage with scientists in an open and collaborative forum to advance biomedical research. One of my missions is to lower the barriers of access to cryoEM technology and cross-train researchers to have an accelerated impact at their home institutions.
