Responsible for implementing, installing, maintaining and upgrading multiple head ends for Charter Communications and other MSOs in both one-way and two-way cable modem configurations across three states. High Speed Access was a “sister company” of Charter Communications and I was specifically recruited away from High Speed Access to manage the data department covering business internet sales and service for Charter Communications directly.

Responsible for increasing sales and service revenue, selling service contracts, hiring a skilled and knowledgeable staff, understanding and exceeding customers expectations, understanding and implementing a variety of operating systems and languages (Including: MS-DOS, Windows 3.x, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows CE & Windows NT, HTML and Novell NetWare) and hardware configurations, configure and install network systems (Both Windows NT & Novell NetWare) for small and medium sized businesses, build custom computers, keep up with hardware and software trends, repairing computers as well as managing inventory both internally and externally. Uptime Computer Services, Inc. was one of several contractors hired to install and support cable modems by Charter Communications / H.S.A. After many successes I was hired directly by High Speed Access to provide the same high quality, reliable and technical skills that I was providing them via UpTime.

Responsible for tripling service revenue by maintaining inventory levels, shortening turn around times, hiring a skilled and knowledgeable technical staff, understanding and exceeding customer’s expectations and repairing computers. Thirty days after rejoining the People’s Computers team the service department went from last place in the 18 store chain to second place in revenue. Sixty days after rejoining the team the service department went from second place in revenue to first place in revenue and profit. We were out performing stores that were in much bigger markets such as Charlotte, Charleston, Columbia & Greenville. From July 1995 until the chain closed its doors in February 1996 we remained the most profitable service department in the chain even when we occasionally dropped to second place in revenue.

While reporting to one of the owners, Steve Nesbit, I had the responsibility of helping maintain Ingles' grocery stores. This included the configuration, installation and maintenance of UNIX based file servers, multiple terminals, cash registers, computer controlled scales, label machines and supporting a LANtastic network at the Ingles' Corporate Offices for their Real Estate division. While not working specifically on Ingles' projects I would be put on loan to other departments that needed help. This allowed me to configure, install and maintain a restaurant system at the Southside Café in Arden and cash registers / fuel pumps at Sandy’s Truck Stop in Canton. I was specifically recruited away from MidSouth Data Systems by People’s Computers to fix the service department in their Asheville, NC location.
