Responsible for leading, planning, and directing the US Air Force EMS Program comprised of 28,000 pre-hospital care providers delivering care across the spectrum of military activities in combat, humanitarian crises, and peacetime environments. Establishes policies and procedures; coordinates EMS with medical, fire protection, law enforcement agencies, and ambulance services; prepares and administers the Air Force EMS budget; attends meetings and conferences: gives talks to service groups and other agencies about EMS; maintains training and recertification records for Air Force EMS personnel; serves as a liaison between the Department of the Air Force and other local, state, and federal agencies by being involved in attending meetings of various task forces and committees; plans, organizes, and administers all training programs to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations; coordinates and administers a quality assurance and improvement program aimed at improving the quality of US Air Force EMS.

Manages doctrine development and instruction of Air Force Special Operations medicine for USSOCOM and other government agency personnel; leads and administers developmental programs to integrate new technologies and evidence-based practices; counsels and mentors students; develops and oversees lesson plans, presents lectures, demonstrations, and psychomotor exercises to students enrolled in courses; instructs students in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Tactical Combat/Emergency Casualty Care (TCCC/TECC), small unit care, minor surgical procedures and sedation, prolonged field care (PFC), and critical care transport. Collaborates with colleagues at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and other community partners to ensure seamless integration of USSOCOM medical personnel into local healthcare systems for clinical education and sustainment.

Led an elite, selectively-manned medical team in support of a highly-maneuverable Special Operations unit that executes classified missions at the direction of the Secretary of Defense. Synchronized $3.3M of globally-engaged materiel and infrastructure while formulating courses of action for higher headquarters approval in response to national crises and diplomatically- sensitive situations. Advised the higher headquarters commander on the physical, technical, and mental readiness of assigned personnel that were tasked with no-notice Joint Task Force deployments. Synchronized DoD, Interagency, and civilian medical partners to maximize care and readiness of the unit’s Total Force that operates a $750M aircraft fleet.

Functions as a member of a critical care transport flight team. Maintains responsibility for care of critically ill or injured patients being transported by the RAMS flight team and ensures safety of team and patient throughout transport. Exercises independent judgment to deliver appropriate care consistent with clinical protocols when contact with a medical physician is not possible. Works within interdisciplinary transport team providing quality patient care services in the air environment. Proactively supports efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services.

Provides pre-hospital advanced life support in dynamic and complex combat and non-combat environments. Delivers care between the point of illness or injury, or within transport echelons between far forward and fixed medical facilities, until patient care is relinquished to another component within the continuum of care. Operates as a medical crew member on rotary, fixed, and tilt-wing aircraft, providing in-flight critical care to patients. Knowledgeable in the use and routine management of all equipment and supplies including ventilators, peri-surgical devices, advanced medications, analgesia and sedation, and cardiac monitoring and mechanical support. Attends pre-mission briefings and mission debriefing, completing necessary documentation

Provides advanced pre-hospital and inter-facility patient care from initial contact until care is relinquished to the accepting medical facility and supervises training for new paramedic personnel. Maintains thorough patient care documentation of assessment and intervention throughout the entire transport and delivers care within the scope of practice as defined by the state of Alabama and RPS protocols. Demonstrates proficient clinical knowledge and competency of psychomotor skills during transport and maintains them through actively participating in ongoing advanced skills laboratories and hand-on clinical exercises. Acts as a patient advocate and clinical roll model to resolve complex situations and patient care issues. Participates in improvement activities and problem solving projects as assigned by the leadership team. Communicates safety concerns to leadership team, educational needs of customers and service area and delivers stellar customer service to both internal and external customers.

Provides advanced level emergency and critical care to the ill and injured, to include assessment of illness and/or injury, management of such patients, preparation for transport, transfer of information, and patient care.

Responsible for searching structures in Urban Search & Rescue environments or other locations indicated in the missionassignment, utilizing appropriate technical search equipment and techniques. Documents and marks locations of victims, potential victims and hazards. Makes assessments through the use of technical search equipment, uses land navigation, and conducts site mapping. Builds partnerships with other response partners.
