About Edward Pham

I am a physician scientist with extensive experience in antiviral and anticancer drug development, spanning small molecule, protein-based, and nucleic acid-based therapeutics with multiple issued inventions and publications. I lead multiple drug development programs during my GI fellowship, and I am now leading our translational research for novel antivirals development as part of ViRx@Stanford, the Stanford Biosecurity and Pandemic Preparedness Initiative. My deep clinical experience in internal medicine and gastroenterology allows me to have a unique insight in the connection between the bench and the bedside. I am particularly well trained to understand how real world clinical practice can influence the development and use of novel therapeutics.

Therefore, my career goal is to become a physician scientist in the field of gastroenterology and hepatology dedicated to translating discoveries in the laboratory into novel medical treatment modalities. My research focus is alterations in phosphoinositides signaling and its pathogenesis in viral infections and other inflammatory conditions including malignancies with the goal to identify novel targets for therapeutic interventions. I also have a particular interest in understanding the interface between chronic viral infection and cancer through studying how the innate and adaptive immune system are perturbed in chronic viral infections Show less

My research interest is translational molecular virology, with a specific focus on hepatitis C virus (HCV). Using both biophysical and genetic tools, I aim to identify viral and host targets that are essential in the viral life cycle and subsequently develop high-throughput assays to identify novel compounds that can inhibit these targets. Particular attention is given to compounds that can be re-purposed for HCV treatments.
