Seconded to Network Rail from IKM Consulting as Project Environment & Ecology Manager for the Levenmouth Rail Link project, a £116m scheme to reinstate 19km of track, with 2 new stations, 3 footbridges and all associated structures, earthworks and ancillary infrastructure. • Role on the IMT (Integrator Management Team) as part of the “Enterprise” under the Project 13 approach to project delivery. Providing environmental advice and co-ordinated management across 8 contractors, 2 design partners and Network Rail. • Lead on all aspects of environmental and sustainability management. Risk reduction, increased performance and implementation of best practice. • Overseeing, producing and implementing range of plans and strategies. Environmental supervisor role as part of the site management team on a £4 million “in-river” civil engineering project within the Lake District national park. Supervised engineering works to construct a large water intake structure within and adjacent to a SSSI and SAC designated watercourse.• Responsible for ensuring project compliance with environmental legislation, contract documents, HSQE plan and environmental control plan as well as ensuring best practice implemented at all times.• Experience in designing temporary pollution prevention and control measures, water treatment, dewatering and erosion control systems at site level, such as “sparging” areas to allow sedimentation of turbid water and coir mesh installation to prevent bankside erosion and run-off. I ensured inclusion of environmental controls when forward planning and producing risk assessments and method statements.• Undertaking daily environmental audits to identify non-conformance and ensuring preventive measures are implemented. Areas audited include: Pollution controls, ecological protection, fuel and chemical storage/spillage, waste management, material storage, weather conditions and sensitive engineering works.• Twice daily water quality monitoring, taking readings for turbidity, pH and conductivity. The sensitivity of the river required strict trigger values to be in place to identify pollution. Ensuring escalation and investigation where trigger levels were reached or exceeded.• Established good working relationships with the site delivery team, project management, client representatives, sub-contractors, ecologists, the Environment Agency and Natural England, through regular meetings and site visits. • Responsible for carrying out the site waste management plan, ensuring compliance with waste management legislation.
