I’ve always loved writing. Named after ‘Elinor Dashwood’ from Austen’s Sense and Sensibility, I naturally thought I was destined to be an author. The bestseller is yet to be written... but I have always carried with me this innate love for writing, for creating content that evokes emotion, for creating feeling with words.One of the biggest learnings that I took from my English Lit degree was to write in an authentic tone, to build human connection with words, to write content that people want to read (and keep reading).Fresh out of graduation, after the classic solo trip around Europe to ‘find myself', I wasn’t entirely sure what to do with my love of literature. I decided to try it as an English tutor - I went for a first interview, and then the pandemic scuppered my plans. The tutoring company was amid a complete digital reboot, having to suddenly adapt to online learning and online marketing. They had very little social media presence, so they chucked me a digital hot potato and asked if I wanted to do it.I never looked back!A marketing team of me, myself and I, I researched, created, conducted B2C marketing strategies and developed a digital presence from scratch. Next, interning with a recruitment company, I began to see the connection between digital marketing and my passion for writing, in writing social media content and blogs for their website. I found my rhythm in writing for an audience and being authentic in doing so.Now in my role with CMC, I develop our social media strategy, build campaigns, create visuals and write content. I provide corporate event support, deliver external conferences, and support events with marketing initiatives. I do a lot of the behind-the-scenes work on our website, optimising pages for search engines, aligning our digital platforms with consistent brand identity and keywords, boosting our Google rankings. I even plan and host staff socials! From that first in-person knees-up after two years of meeting solely through Teams, to virtual cocktail classes and hosting our own episodes of ‘Would I lie to you?’.My finest testimonial – ‘El is brilliant fun’. From a person who dabbles in Neuroscience, so he knows his stuff!I am also privileged to be involved in our Wellbeing and EDI teams. Supporting mental health and EDI initiatives, I lead sessions, write articles, raise awareness, and create safe spaces to open conversation in these areas.Ultimately, I have cultivated a passion for engaging with people, for making people feel involved, and writing content that is authentic and inclusive to all.
