Structurally and biophysically investigated high-affinity antibodies specific for a major malarial antigen to gain insight into potent epitopes to target for vaccine design. Subsequently applied novel insights to design and biochemically characterize a next-generation nanoparticle-based immunogen for evaluation in immunization studies using animal models. Overall findings hold implications for anti-malaria antibody therapeutic development and rational vaccine design against all infectious diseases, and have been shared through five publications in peer-reviewed journals, 27 X-ray crystal structures deposited in the Protein Data Bank and two published patents.Secured funding through competitive scholarships (3-year Vanier CGS, $50,000/year for three years; SickKids Restracomp, $26,000/year; CIHR CGS-M, $17,500; U of T Fellowship, $15,000; and travel grants, $1,820 total value). Presented research at international conferences and local symposiums, resulting in two poster awards. Engaged in international collaborations and mentored two undergraduate students conducting fourth-year thesis projects in the lab.

Investigated the antibody response against a domain of high interest in a major malarial antigen by biophysically characterizing the molecular binding interactions formed by 24 different antibodies targeting this region and determining the structure of one high-affinity antibody.Presented research in a 3-minute thesis, poster presentations and formal oral presentations to communicate scientific findings to a variety of audiences, resulting in a first-place oral presentation prize at the SickKids Summer Research Symposium.
