Harbin Hot Springs was a $10M spiritual retreat center which owned 12,075 acres of land, incorporated in 1975 and gained 501(c)3 tax-exempt status in 1978. Facilities included 60 structures to serve up to 1,000 people at a time, including ten hot and cold spring-fed pools, hotels, conference buildings, restaurant, cafes, market, spa, movie theater, temple, dressing rooms, offices, library, resident housing, and supporting infrastructure.In September 2015, the Valley Fire destroyed Harbin’s facilities and the property was closed as a result. Over 76,000 acres and thousands of homes and businesses in Lake County were burned. Harbin was forced to lay off 85% of its employees. Following the fire, Harbin is rebuilding its infrastructures and facilities, a multi-year construction process projected to cost $60 million.As one of six Managing Directors, I was active in planning the future of Harbin. Primarily focusing on the numbers -- data analysis, auditing, budgeting, forecasting and risk analysis, and translating the results into an intelligible narrative for strategic decisions. In addition, I supervised the Accounting, Payroll, Events, Pools, Purchasing and Housekeeping departments. As CFO and Treasurer, I successfully negotiated long-term rebuild loans, real estate purchases, legal issues, and oversaw the investment portfolio and Board of Directors communications.
