I am an independent, Los Angeles-based Korean language service professional, offering translation/localization, copywriting, consecutive interpreting, voice-over acting & directing, cultural consulting and dialect coaching. Though a Standard Korean Dialect speaker born and raised in Seoul, I am also fluent in various regional dialects of both South Korea and North Korea. In 2018, I interpreted/translated the famous North Korean news anchor Li Chun-hee's broadcast coverage of Kim Jung Un during the Singapore Summit between the North Korean leader and President Trump, for "The Daily News with Trevor Noah"; throughout 2020 and 2021 to the present, I have been remotely coaching many actors to prepare for their Korean-speaking roles in such shows as Pachinko (Apple TV+), The Hot Zone: Anthrax (NatGeo), Lovecraft Country (HBO), and Dave (Season 2, FXX) among others.A well-known Korean saying, "한 우물을 파라(Dig one well deep)", roughly translates as "Focus on one thing in order to succeed". Although my life has been the opposite of this traditional wisdom, it turns out to be a blessing in disguise in my chosen profession; my diverse experience as a writer, law major* (from prestigious Seoul National University), newspaper editor (at illustrious Chosun Ilbo), actor (with an MFA from California Institute of the Arts and professional theater career in Korea beforehand) and television & radio broadcaster is undoubtedly the greatest asset to my craft, combined with my expert bilingual research skill and strong work ethic.I have the unusual advantage of having worked as a professional in both Korea and the United States. My dual parallel experiences enable me to understand both cultures broadly but deeply, ensuring accuracy, subtlety, and compassion in all services I offer. It is my calling and privilege to be able to help bridge the linguistic and cultural gap between English and Korean.*Until 2009, law was the most prestigious major for undergrad students in Republic of Korea (South). Since then, South Korea has adopted the 3-year law school system nationwide, while undergrad law education is no longer offered.
Listed skills include Translation, Consecutvie Interpreting, Korean Language And Culture Consultation, Voice Acting, and 26 others.
