Virtual Thermal Systems - Lead Engineer
• Lead a team of 6 engineers (Under hood/Underbody thermal 3D CFD, Front-end Airflow, Propulsion System Cooling (GT), & Brake Cooling) for various BEVs (Chevrolet Equinox EV, Cadillac Optiq, GMC Hummer EV) & Next gen performance vehicles through their respective Virtual Vehicle Assessments, Peers, and design reviews along the entire Vehicle Product Development Timeline.• Directed a project to enhance battery cooling and cabin performance by integrating enablers into both the coolant and refrigerant systems, including accumulators, improvements to suction line pressure drop, implementation of subcoolers, and calibration changes, resulting in a 15% overall system improvement.• Coordinated and developed a Thermal SIL for the Thermal organization connecting; the thermal system model (GTPower), Fan & Shutters controls (Simulink), Energy (Simulink), RESS model (Simulink/interface with SABER) & Software (Vehicle & Body Control Modules in Simulink) to create a complete “virtual bench/twin” for the first time. • Developed a thermal system co-simulation integrated with a vehicle level energy model to predict low and high voltage loads from the thermal cooling system, directly supporting efforts to understand and improve vehicle range.• Organized and led a strategic meeting with directors from three organizations to spearhead projects for virtualization of tools and software & controls integration, aligning efforts to reduce dependency on hardware.• Led a team of engineers to create the capability to predict front-end airflow for various flow paths and CRFMs and integrated the capability to the latest In-House Lap Time Simulator (LTS). These results coupled the energy & Thermal models with LTS and generated the first thermal real-time derate strategies for track capabilities in BEVs.• Created & automated process to execute Thermal SILs and co-simulations in High-Performance Computing System (HPC) - increasing Simulation Integration Engineers throughput by 155%.
Aerothermal Cfd Engineer
• Influenced design criteria based on results from CFD models for the front fascia of the Next-Gen HD Trucks platforms, which led to achieving world-class towing for commercial HD Trucks.• Collaborated directly with Aerodynamics, Studio Design, Manufacturing, and Body teams to develop CFD models for all grilles/fascia combinations of the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD, successfully achieving Heat exchangers airflow requirements while managing conflicting requirements.
Wind Tunnel Test Engineer
• Created code & GUI for ease of tunnel-to-tunnel correlation, decreasing data analytics to 10 minutes and human error, compared to various hours using manual data filtering.• Completed Tunnel-To-Tunnel Correlation study and reported changes in Wind Tunnel performance from 2013-2018. Recommendations were provided to improve constant operations in the different tunnels.• Developed system to reduce tire slip by 20% for high-load tests at the Climatic Wind Tunnel.• Completed fan diagnostics for 3 different vehicle platforms including fan wind milling, different emission cycle test and participated in cross-country test trips.
Body & Chassis Engineer
Designed side pods, using Computational Fluid Dynamics (STAR CCM+), considering engine and aerodynamics constrains for proper engine cooling and assure aerodynamics points in the overall design criteria.Simulated non-aero body kits in order to acquire data of an overall low drag-coefficient body .
Hardware Analyst Intern
Simulated vibration isolators in order to obtain the thermal resistance and use it as a thermal coupling, therefore, reducing the computational time of an assembly simulation by 60%.Simulated and analyzed different scenarios of heat dissipation of Inertial Navigation Systems in order to detect hotspots and failures produced by high temperature in electronic components.
Technical Service Engineer (Intern)
Supported the design of the seawater makeup bypass for the multi-effect distillation unit (water desalination).Created the Bill Of Materials for the bypass pipeline and selected the best offer, having in consideration the price of the materials and the manufacturing leap time of the materials.Supervised the installation of the seawater bypass done by external contractors.
Cfd Validation
Compared and validated data using Computational Fluid Dynamics (STAR CCM+) simulations of a refrigeration air duct for a turbine stage ( on a turbofan engine) with a test rig provided by The University of Connecticut.
Aerodynamics Engineer
Simulated external aerodynamics using Computational Fluid Dynamics (STAR CCM+) and re-designed the exterior to improve the drag force for optimal performance. Reported a reduction of 13% of drag force compared with the old version of the REVO (Reconfigurable Electric Vehicle Options).
