About Elizabeth Machado

As the granddaughter of a Bracero, and daughter of a migrant farmworker from Sinaloa, México, I became intimately aware of the impact of low wage work at an early age. Fortunately, when my father became a construction worker and LIUNA member, and then a longshoreman and ILWU Local 13 member, my family and I experienced the benefits of unionization. For the first time, my family had a stable income and health insurance. This background motivates my zealous advocacy of workers’ rights.
