About Elizabeth Teskey
As I have made the transition into the field of Career Development, I have discovered that the idea of “practical support” best describes my philosophy in terms of how I can help others. I am at my best when I can provide others with knowledge, resources, and tools that they can use to meet their potential. In my role as a Job Coach, working with youth facing barriers to employment in the YW's In Her Shoes youth employment training program, the coaching and relationship building skills developed through years as a supervisor in combination with the job search, resume support, counselling and group facilitation skills acquired through my career development education has provided me with a strong foundation as I began in this field. My previous education in social work has also contributed to my active listening and trust building skills, as well as a solution-focused and client-centred viewpoint. My recent experiences both with the YW's In Her Shoes program and in my work with The Grove Hubs has reinforced to me more than ever how age-appropriate and ongoing support for youth as they transition into adulthood can have enormous impact on the community at large; my goal is to continue to be a part of that ongoing support and services through the field of employment counselling and career development.
