Skills: Using MATLAB and ODV (Ocean Data View), I acquired new skills including importing various file formats, trouble shooting, and extensive research into errors. The experience gave me greater confidence in having a go and persistence when resolving problems.Team work: based in Dr Tim Smyth’s (Head of Science – Marine Biogeochemistry and Ocean Observations) team and worked with several of them to obtain data, clarify tasks, and seek help when needed. I attended the Marine Tech Expo, held at Plymouth University, which provided invaluable exposure to marine technology and career opportunities whilst giving me an opportunity to develop my networking skills. Understanding and delivering work to a brief: I delivered several projects for Tim, each required me to clarify the scope and content, and deliver to an agreed timescale. Boat work: I joined the crew of the Plymouth Quest on 3 occasions, which provided valuable hands-on experience in benthic survey, data collection and at L4 and ecological site survey.

Modern Observational Oceanography Course(Transcript can be accessed in the media section of my personal profile)− A 3-week intensive course utilizing state of the art technology − Comprised lectures, formal practicals, laboratory exercises and fieldwork including a 2-day research cruise and the deployment of gliders. − Themes included carbon and nutrient cycling, carbonate chemistry and ocean acidification and ocean-atmosphere interactions. − The course reinforced my existing learning and introduced me to new themes and practical techniques which will be invaluable in my future studies.
