Everyone should work in the food industry at some point in their lives, it is a humbling and eye-opening experience. At BJ's Restaurant I learned both the importance of professionalism and a diligent work ethic. As a hostess, one acts as the go-between, communicating with servers, the kitchen, management, and guests in order to ensure things run as smoothly as possible. As a takeout server, one must be detail oriented whether at the register or in the kitchen. When at the register, a takeout server handles payments, closes out checks, and directly communicates with guests. When communicating with guests, whether over the phone or in person, it is important to maintain an inviting and professional manner no matter the temperment of the guest. In the kitchen, takeout staff packages food orders, ensuring that each item - many often requiring several additions such as sides, dressings, labels - is packed properly with care. Kitchen takeout staff also handles the restocking of all things necessary for packing takeout orders,. Maintaining focus under pressure is one of the most valued skills a person can gain from working in a restaurant. I have learned a great deal about customer service, team work, and the importance of communication through this job.

Religious Studies Department Office Assistant/Research AssistantWorking for the University of Redlands Religious Studies Department was a privilege. In this position I was given the chance to get to know the faculty of the department well. Scanning documents, filing, copying, and aiding the professors allowed me to help grow and strengthen the department that had imparted me with a great deal of knowledge and perspective.

At Mayer's Tax Income Service, I did what I could to help the staff through tax season in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. Filing, scanning documents, retrieving documents, making phone calls, and sanitizing the work equipment were all part of my duties within the office. At this office, I was given the opportunity to help a family and friends owned business, making it more enjoyable, as I had the opportunity to learn more about office work and office environments from people that both wanted to see each other succeed, and relied on communication and team work for the overall success of the office.

Target was my introduction to the importance of customer service work. Working as a cashier at a large chain retail store taught me how to react quickly, as situations involving guests would arise and quick, well-thought solutions were needed. I developed the ability to multitask - interacting with customers while also handling goods, sorting money, and maintaining both a friendly demeanor and a clean workspace.
